What Happened to the Peaches AND APPLES in 2026?

Every spring is a leap of faith for fruit growers.
This year, Mother Nature gave us several days near 90°F in April. The warmth encouraged our peach and apples trees to do exactly what they're supposed to do—wake up and bloom.
Then, overnight on April 21–22, temperatures dropped to 22°F.
Peach blossoms are beautiful, but they're also incredibly vulnerable. Once a tree is in bloom, a hard freeze can destroy those blossoms in just a few hours. And no blossom means no peach. Same for apples.
When customers ask, "Why don't you just buy more peaches?" the answer is that this wasn't just an us problem. Growers throughout the Hudson Valley, New Jersey, and much of the Northeast experienced similar losses, leaving very few local peaches available anywhere.
We'll still have a very small crop this summer, and we'll offer those peaches by the pound with purchase limits so as many families as possible can enjoy them. Apple availability will vary by variety. Apologies in advance if your favorite got wiped out entirely (and some did for sure).
It's heartbreaking to lose a crop when caring for orchards is a year-round job, but farming has always meant working with Mother Nature—not against her. Of course it's also financially devastating, since there's no crop insurance for peaches in this part of the county. Even with crop insurance, the losses are a scary and big financial hit. We deeply appreciate everyone's understanding and support, especially in challenging seasons like this one.
