Order Soons Apples

What kind of a name is Soons?

Applesauce is the perfect side dish, snack,
and you can use it in recipes too!

“Seconds” (apples with a few bruises, skin defects or less color) are ideal for applesauce, or use those apples that got left in the fridge just a tad too long!

Homemade Applesauce Made Simple

Half to 1 cup water or cider       sugar to taste (optional)

Spices: dash cinnamon       dash nutmeg -- if desired

8 or more SOONS apples – a mix is best J

1. Peel (if desired), core apples and slice into equal size chunks, to fill a 2-quart pot, within 2” of top

2. Add water or cider. For “juicy” apples – like Macs, add less.

3. Cook on low to medium heat, covered at the start, slowly until apples are soft. Stir every 5 minutes.

4. When soft (after typically 20-30 minutes), mash apples with potato masher, or put through a food mill, to reach desired consistency.

4. Allow to cool. Then add sugar or artificial sweetner to taste (if you used cider you probably won’t need any sugar – Soons homemade sauce is sugar-free), and spices if desired. Serve hot or cold. Makes 6 to 10 servings. Refrigerate for about a week to 10 days, or freeze for later use.

For the microwave:

Medium sized microwave safe bowl, fill with sliced apples ‘til 2” from the top. Start with half to 3/4 cup cider, cook on high for 4-5 minutes, check and stir, add more liquid if needed, then cook another 4 to 5 minutes (8 to 10 minutes total). Then from step #4 above.
